Drift Mode Calculations in Nonaxisymmetric Geometry
A fully kinetic assessment of the stability properties of toroidal drift modes has been obtained for nonaxisymmetric (stellarator) geometry, in the electrostatic limit. This calculation is a comprehensive solution of the linearized gyrokinetic equation, using the lowest-order \ballooning representation" for high toroidal mode number instabilities, with a model collision operator. Results for to...
متن کاملKinetic Theories of Geodesic Acoustic Mode in Toroidal Plasmas
Geodesic Acoustic Modes (GAM) are known to constitute a continuous spectrum due to radial inhomogeneities. The existence of a singular layer causes GAM to mode convert to short wavelength kinetic GAM (KGAM) via finite ion Larmor radius (FLR) and finite guiding-center drift-orbit-width (FOW) effects. The dispersion relation of GAM/KGAM with FLR/FOW as well as parallel electric field contribution...
متن کاملThe Effect of Inclined U-Notch Geometry on Mode Ratio (KII/KI) under Mixed Mode (I + II) Loading
In inclined U-notches, the mixed mode (I + II) loading occurs and the mode ratio can be increased by varying the notch angle. In this paper, the effect of the inclined U-notch geometry, i.e. the notch depth, the notch angle, the notch root radius, and the position of the notch with respect to supports, on the mode ratio (KII/KI) have been studied. Three-point bending and plane strain condition ...
متن کاملshear suppression of turbulence in diverted H-mode plasmas; role of edge magnetic shear
s. We show that strong edge magnetic shear which is generic to divertor plasmas makes the shearing of turbulence eddys in toroidal geometry more effective. From calculations of the shearing rates for KSTAR edge parameters, we conclude that the enhanced magnetic shear at the diverted KSTAR plasma edge facilitates shear suppression of turbulence and ensuing H-mode transition.
متن کاملPaleoclassical transport in low-collisionality toroidal plasmas
Radial electron heat transport in a low-collisionality, current-carrying resistive plasma confined in an axisymmetric toroidal magnetic field is hypothesized to be caused by the paleoclassical collisional processes of parallel electron heat conduction and radial magnetic-field diffusion. The electron distribution is Maxwellianized and the electron temperature equilibrated over a long length L t...
